My story

A personal market journal
for 30% bracket investors.

BracketWise exists because generic investment content ignores the biggest drag on returns for high-income Indians — taxes. I built the notes I wished someone else had written.

"I kept seeing great investment ideas that made no sense for my tax bracket. A stock with 25% gross return, held for 8 months, costs 20% STCG. That's not a great investment anymore — it's barely beating a debt fund. Nobody was building research that accounted for this."

Why I started this

Tax is the hidden return killer.

At the 30% income tax bracket, the difference between a 12-month hold (LTCG at 12.5%) and an 11-month hold (STCG at 20%) on ₹10 lakh of gains is ₹75,000. Every year. On gains you actually earned.

Most investment research is written for institutional investors who operate in a completely different tax world. The institutional analyst issuing a research rating on HDFCBANK pays no STCG — their fund is structured differently. You do.

BracketWise is built for individual investors in the 30% tax slab who want research that accounts for the reality of their tax situation — not research written as if taxes don't exist.

How I think

Three principles that guide everything.

01
Output only, process private

I share what my analysis observes — not the exact methodology behind it. The factor model, weights, and thresholds stay private. What you see is the observation, not the machinery.

02
Track record built in public

Every research observation is logged with a date and reviewed publicly at the outcome horizon. I report what I got right and what I missed. A track record built in public is the only kind worth trusting.

03
Tax discipline above all

Every signal is evaluated for after-tax return, not gross return. A 22% return held 12+ months beats a 25% return held 8 months at the 30% bracket. I try never to forget this.

The journey

From private notes to public journal.

BracketWise started as a private personal tool — built for my own portfolio. The goal was simple: automate the daily research workflow that was being done manually every morning before markets opened.

After building factor screening, macro intelligence, and tax calendar alerts — the question became: why keep these notes private? Every 30% bracket investor has the same problem. So I started sharing publicly.
